Captain Bruce Mack

Ninth District Senior Reserve Officer

U.S. Coast Guard Reserve

Captain Mack assumed the duties of the Senior Reserve Officer for the Ninth Coast Guard District in October 2020, where he guides a team of over 400 reserve personnel conducting federal maritime safety and security, defense and law enforcement operations across the Great Lakes and Saint Lawrence Seaway, an area that encompasses eight states and a 1,500 mile international border. His career spans formulation, budgeting, implementation, and leadership roles in the fields of maritime safety, national defense, international maritime operations and intelligence.

Prior to joining the Ninth District, Captain Mack was the Senior Reserve Officer for Coast Guard Sector Los Angeles-Long Beach where he oversaw a multi-mission reserve program supporting operations across 350 miles of central California coast and two ports including Los Angeles-Long Beach; the nation's largest container port complex moving over $500 billion dollars of cargo per year that directly affects over 1.6 million US jobs.

He has held a wide range of past assignments including; Senior Reserve Officer for Coast Guard Sector Lake Michigan and Joint Inter Agency Task Force South in Key West Florida, Foreign Area Officer at United States Joint Forces Command, Marine Inspector at Sturgeon Bay Wisconsin and several port operations and pollution response positions. Captain Mack also completed an exchange tour with the US Navy as the Chief Engineer and later Officer in Charge of a Navy Reserve Assault Craft Detachment, along with a number of temporary assignments include Naval AttachĂ© for the US Mission to the Association of Southeast Asian Nations in Jakarta, Indonesia and Deputy Commander for the 8th Coast Guard District’s Area Command overseeing the responses to Hurricanes Harvey, Maria and Irma.

Captain Mack holds advanced degrees from the Naval War College in Newport Rhode Island and Webster University in St. Louis. He is also a distinguished graduate of the Naval College of Command and Staff and completed programs at Defense Intelligence University and the advanced program at the Joint Staff College of National Defense University. Captain Mack works in the environmental engineering field as a civilian program director for the federal government. He is married to Ms. Patricia Mack, an executive in the finance sector and is the father of two daughters, Margaret a mechanical engineer and Sarah, a high school student and aspiring author. His personal awards include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Joint Service Commendation Medal, Coast Guard Commendation Medals, and Navy Commendation Medals.
