Command Master Chief Shannan Garretson

Pacific Area Reserve Command Master Chief

U.S. Coast Guard Reserve

CMC Shannan K. Garretson reported into the Pacific Area in April, 2022, as the Reserve Component Command Master Chief. Her primary responsibility is to be the Area Commander’s advisor on challenges and opportunities facing the Reserve Component members within the Pacific Area

CMC Garretson had previously served as the Command Master Chief, Reserve Component for the Coast Guards Thirteenth District, based out of Seattle, WA, and the Command Master Chief, Reserve Component for Sector Ohio Valley, based out of Louisville, KY. Her previous assignments include USCG Sector Ohio Valley in Louisville, KY, Sector Upper Mississippi River in St. Louis, MO, Marine Safety Detachment Quad Cities in Rock Island, IL, Marine Safety Office Chicago in Chicago, IL, and Station Niagara, in Youngstown, NY. CMC Garretson also mobilized for the Deep Water Horizon disaster, Hurricane Maria, and the Southwest Border operation. Her military awards include two Coast Guard Commendation Medals, four Coast Guard Achievement Medals, along with other personal and unit level recognitions.

CMC Garretson is a graduate of Recruit Company P-158, MST A-School 02-03, CPOA Reserve Class XXVIII, the Senior Enlisted Leadership Course, and the Reserve Component National Security Course. She holds a Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Environmental Science from the University of Iowa and a Masters of Arts degree in Organizational Leadership from Waldorf University. CMC Garretson currently resides near Des Moines, Iowa with her husband Cameron Stufflebeam, and two daughters, Jeneva and Isabel Garretson.
