Command Master Chief Melissa Sharer

Director of Operational Logistics Reserve Command Master Chief

Master Chief Melissa Sharer has returned to assume the duties as the Reserve Command Master Chief for Director of Operational Logistics. She is responsible for assisting the Bases in maintaining reserve readiness, managing leadership training opportunities and promoting professional development.  Most recently, Master Chief Sharer served as the Reserve Command Master Chief for Sector/Air Station Corpus Christi and Sector Houston-Galveston.

Master Chief Sharer’s career began with the Coast Guard Reserve Unit Marine Safety Office Corpus Christi, TX where she performed law enforcement boardings and safety inspections of deep draft vessels carrying cargo, oil, and gas as a Port Security Seaman.  Master Chief Sharer then transferred to Group Corpus Christi where she struck advancement to a Yeoman Third Class continuing to advance through the ranks onto Master Chief Yeoman. 

Throughout the hurricane seasons, Master Chief Sharer assumed the role of Command Master Chief to the Incident Commander and provided a critical role to both reserve and active duty members deployed to the area. Master Chief Sharer immersed in the daily operations providing guidance and recommendations to the Incident Commander while maintaining awareness of the wellbeing of all involved. Master Chief Sharer was recalled in response to the devastations caused by Hurricane Harvey, Laura and Delta. With her experience, skills and knowledge in administrative pay, pre/post deployment and personnel services, Master Chief Sharer has been called to temporary active duty contingency orders for Operation Noble Eagle, Operation Iraqi Freedom, and Operation Freedom’s Sentinel and selected as a Reserve Recruiter when recruiting efforts surged after 9/11. Master Chief Sharer was also recalled under Title 14 orders during the Deepwater Horizon oil drilling rig explosion and collapse.

Master Chief Sharer is a graduate of the Coast Guard Reserve Chief Petty Officer Academy Class (XXII) and the Senior Enlisted Service Academy. Her honors include Meritorious Service Medal, four Coast Guard Commendation Medals, two Coast Guard Achievement Medals, two Coast Guard Good Conduct Medals, seven Coast Guard Reserve Good Conduct Medals, Armed Forces Service Medal, and Coast Guard Armed Forces Reserve Medal with a Gold Hourglass and seven “M” devices for mobilizations. 

Master Chief Sharer is the first Latina in a Command Senior Enlisted Leadership Role. She has a Degree in Applied Science, Paralegal Specialty, from Del Mar College in Corpus Christi, Texas. Master Chief Sharer is a Legal Administrative Specialist with the Department of Justice, Executive Office for Immigration Review in San Antonio, TX.
